How does a surge protector work?

The live wire or main power line in a surge protector includes an extra linked connection that feeds to an earth wire. An earth cable’s purpose would be to direct any additional current safely into the floor. The surge link in the shield remains inactive until a larger than normal voltage appears. This extra current is then safely diverted through the excess earth wire, directly into the floor. This prevents more current than ordinary from flowing to your appliances effectively making sure that they are protected from any harm that can result from power surges.
